Drug abuse

Sir,
Refer news item ‘CM for concerted efforts to save youth from scourge of drug abuse’ DE Sep 17.
The drug abuse in the State is on the rise as the statistics on the issue reveal. The involvement of youth in this abuse is really a matter of great concern, and it can be brushed under the carpet only on our peril.
To deal with this problem, it is necessary to find the underlying causes behind the situation. Once causes are known remedial measures can be taken in hand. The police must become proactive in the matter, and  those who are involved in trade must be punished according to law of the land.
The organisation involved in de-addiction must be encouraged by providing them financial and police help. There is need to involve trained counsellors and psychologists in the process. More de-addiction centres should be set up in all the three regions of  the State to overcome the problem.
Role of religious scholars and social scientists in curbing this menace should also be taken into account.
Yours etc….
