Drug menace in Punjab

Sir,
Drug menace, its supply chain,  political and bureaucratic collusion for its perpetual spreading or its effect on people and society   have been  debated recently across  the state of Punjab. How far it has seeped in society can be gauged from this little incident.  Previous day I had to go to Chandigarh from an adjoining place called Kharar.  Upon reaching my destination I handed  Rs 50/- to the rickshaw driver who after  deducting his fare charges gave  a Rs 20  note back to me.  I approached a nearby kiosk to purchase a cold drink bottle against this  note.  The shopkeeper curiously examined the note and carelessly  asked me if I was a drug addict! I could only shout at this poor dealer for the uncalledfor comment he had made .  But he argued that the note I had provided for purchasing the cold drink had certain marks which suggest  that this note had been used for intake of drugs. I felt like commending certain people who have contributed in making gross awareness about this societal evil.
The experience encountered only reinforces the belief of rampant societal involvement of people in drugs in Punjab. This has found an echo across the State.
Yours etc……
