Drug peddler arrested

SRINAGAR, July 29: Police today apprehended a drug peddler from whose possession one kilogramme of poppy straw was recovered.
Tourist Police Station Srinagar received a written complaint from tourists of Jaipur regarding malpractice done with them by a taxi driver of Batote, Jammu.
On receiving the complaint, Tourist Police swung into action and started the investigation. During the investigation, the taxi driver, found in suspicious circumstances, was checked. On checking the vehicle, one kilogram of poppy straw concealed in three polythene bags was recovered.
Accordingly, Police Station Kothibagh was informed for registration of FIR and subsequently case FIR number 68/2018 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered and investigation has been taken up.
Meanwhile, Handwara police arrested a drug peddler during a naka checking in Langate area of the district and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
A police party of Police Post Langate during naka checking near Khroo bridge apprehended a person, who tried to flee from the area on seeing the police party. On his personal search, 45 strips of banned medicines were recovered. The person was later identified as Nassir Ahmad son of Abdul Khaliq resident of Langate.
During investigation, it has been found that these drugs were meant for sale among the youth of the area at exorbitant rates and make them fall in the trap of addicts.
In this regard, a case FIR number 304/2018 under Section 8/22 NDPS Act stands registered in Police Station Handwara and investigation has been taken up.
