JAMMU, Dec 7: Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Zonal Unit Jammu arrested a drug peddler with around 20 kilograms of cannabis.
As per police spokesman, on reliable information, the sleuths of NCB Zonal Unit Jammu laid a naka near Ban Toll Plaza and intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number DL8CS-2456.
During checking, the sleuths recovered 19.900 kilograms of cannabis from the vehicle and arrested one person, who has been identified as Mohammad Yaqoob Rather, son of Abdul Aziz Rather, a resident of Srinagar.
The consignment was destined to Mumbai from Srinagar.
As revealed by the arrested accused the drug traffickers based in the districts of South Kashmir are actively indulged in the trafficking of cannabis from Kashmir Valley to other parts of the country like Mumbai, Nasik, Ahmedabad, Delhi and Pune.
The spokesman further stated that the cannabis is being trafficked through public transport, private cars and loaded trucks, adding that NCB Zonal Unit Jammu and other drug law enforcement agencies of the State are working together to curb this drug menace and has launched special drives against the drug traffickers in the area during the year 2017 and affected a number of significant seizures of narcotics drug.
He said that the same efforts are being continued during the current year 2018, adding that 15 seizure cases of heroin and cannabis have been affected by NCB Jammu till date.
