Drug peddler escapes from PS, re-arrested

SAMBA, Nov 5:A drug peddler today escaped from police custody within hours of his arrest by Bari Brahmana Police in Samba district in which three policemen have been suspended, an official said. However, he was re-arrested tonight.
SSP Samba Anil Magotra told the Excelsior tonight that accused was re-arrested from Ghagwal, where he had taken shelter after escape. The arrest was made after day long hectic searches, he added.
Two drug peddlers were arrested for their involvement in drug peddling from Bari Brahmana area of the district yesterday and 400 capsule s were recovered from them. They were booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, a senior police officer said.
The two drug peddlers were identified as Sahil Singh alias Tindu, resident of Smailpur and Ajay Singh , S/o Ranjit Singh R/o Bassi Kalan of Bari Brahmana in Samba district.
He said both the arrested persons were lodged at the local police station yesterday for questioning but one of them, Sahil, gave a slip to the policemen on the pretext of attending the call of nature this morning.
“Three policemen including one Sub Inspector were placed under suspension for dereliction of duty and an inquiry has been ordered,” the officer said.
A manhunt has also been launched to arrest the accused, he said.
The suspended cops included S I Navneet Singh, Constable Shoukat Hussain and Selection Grade Constable Raj Singh. They were charged for dereliction of duty.
SDPO, Bari Brahmana, Usman Choudhary said that the police has registered another case against drug peddler under Section 223/224 RPC as escape from police custody is a serious crime.
