POONCH, Aug 23: A drug peddler was arrested by police from Mendhar area of district Poonch along with one kilogram of heroin today.
Reports from Mendhar said that jawans of SOG Poonch and Mendhar police led by SDPO Mendhar Riaz Tantray acting on a specific information laid a trap and nabbed a drug peddler hailing from Rajal village in Nowshera, near Govt Degree College, near Darana, Mendhar at around 11. 15 AM. A packet of one kg heroin valuing worth over Rs one crore in the International market was also seized. His two associates however, managed to slip away from the spot.
The accused has been identified as Mohd Ajwar, son of Mohd Shabir, resident of Rajal, Nowshera. He originally belonged to Deri Dabsi village near the Line of Control in Mendhar. This village is situated on that side of the fencing. He was on visit to his village. It has been believed that he obtained this packet from that side of the LoC and had come to collect this assignment.
The police has registered a case FIR against him and started investigation. The police said that raids were being conducted to nab his associate.
