Drug peddler held, Smack powder seized

KATRA, Aug 16: In a major success against menace of drugs in the holy town, Katra Police today apprehended an accused and recovered Smack powder from his possession.
The accused, identified as Anil Sharma of Bishnah Road, Bari Brahmana, was carrying seven grams of Smack powder, worth Rs 49 thousand, for its further sale among addicts in the town.
He was apprehended by a Police party, led by SHO Katra, Inspector Kuldeep Krishan Pandita.  This is apparently for the first time that Police has succeeded in recovery of Smack in Katra Town.
More arrests are likely in this connection as the Police is hopeful of cracking an entire chain of drug smugglers in Katra.
A case under NDPS Act has been registered in this connection at Katra Police Station.
Meanwhile, Katra Police also arrested two bootleggers and recovered 80 pouches of illicit liquor from their possession.
One of the accused, Pawan Kumar of Seela, presently putting up at Katra, was apprehended from Nai Basti area when he was smuggling 70 polypouches of Desi liquor in his Maruti car.
The other accused, identified as Sunil Kumar of Talwara Reasi, was held from Auto Stand Katra and 10 poly pouches of J&K Excise Liquor were recovered from his possession.
