Drug peddler held with 12 kg poppy straw

JAMMU, June 21: A drug peddler was arrested from Dogra Chowk Area here and 12 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from his possession, police said today.
They said on Tuesday evening, a team of Nowabad Police Station led by SHO Nowabad Inspector Surinder Raina under the supervision of SDPO Headquarters, Dr Sunniya Ashkoor Wani, signalled an auto for checking at Dogra Chowk Area.
During search of the occupant of the vehicle, identified as Kamaljit Singh of Gahoon, Nawanshahr, Punjab, who was travelling from Bus Stand to Railway Station Jammu, police said, 12 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered.
The accused has been arrested and booked in case FIR number 96/2023 under sections 8/15/25 of the NDPS Act and further investigation taken up, added police.
