JAMMU, Oct 3: Sleuths of Drugs and Food Control Organization Jammu seized a big consignment of Rexcof Syrup, which was being smuggled into the State for illegal sale apparently for the intoxication purpose.
The consignment, having Batch number AP-33371 and BA-3022, manufactured by M/s Cipla Limited, Taluka Mulshi, Pune, was seized at Lakhanpur with active cooperation and support of Commercial Tax Officers posted there.
Bound for Srinagar, the consignment was being transported through a truck bearing number JK02U-9647. The truck driver Shabir Ahmad Yatoo of Nagam, Chadoora, Badgam, could not produce any documents related to source of purchase and further distribution of the consignment.
The drug contains Codeine Phosphate as one of the ingredient and it is for this reason that the youth, mainly adolescents get habitual to it and use the same for intoxication.
Peerzada Tasaduq, Drug Inspector, Lakhanpur carried out seizure under Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules under the direct supervision of Farida Parveen, Deputy Drugs Controller, Jammu.
