SRINAGAR: Dry and chilly weather continued in the Kashmir valley where the minimum temperature witnessed a drop but was still above normal barring at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg which freezes at minus 11.2 degree.
Though Leh also recorded some improvement, but border town of Kargil in the Ladakh region witnessed further drop and settled at minus 10.4 degree minimum temperature.
A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that weather will remain dry in the Valley and Jammu region during the next 24 hours while isolated rain could occur in Ladakh.
He said due to clear sky after recording snowfall recently, there is considerable drop in the mercury at Gulmarg, famed ski resort in north Kashmir, connected by helicopter service from summer capital, Srinagar.
Against yesterday’s minus 8 degree, the minimum temperature there was minus 11.2 degree, more than four notches below normal.
The maximum temperature yesterday was also two degree below normal. Interestingly famed health, resort Pahalgam recorded major improvement in the weather. Against yesterdays minus 3.5 degree, it was 0.5 degree, seven notches above normal.
People woke up to a sunny morning but sun was playing hide and seek as the day progressed in the summer capital, Srinagar, where the mercury remained above normal though it witnessed some drop.
Against yesterday’s 2.9 degree, it was 0.9 degree, more than a notch above normal in the city, where so far coldest was minus 5.6 degree recorded on December 21.
He said sky would be generally cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperature will be around 4 degree and 0 degree respectively during the next 24 hours. Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, Kokernag and Kupwara also recorded above normal though it witnessed a drop.
Leh recorded minus 7 degree against yesterday’s minus 9.3 degree while at Kargil it was minus 10.4 degree against yesterdays minus 10 degree.
Sky would be partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 7 degree and minus 5 degree respectively during the next 24 hours in Leh.
He said at winter capital, Jammu, the sky would be generally cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 18 degree and 10 degree respectively during the next 24 hours. (UNI)
