JAMMU, Nov 17: District Special Branch (DSB) arrested a narcotic smuggler along with large quantity of poppy straw from Narwal.
On specific inputs, DSB sleuths laid a naka at Sunjwan Morh and intercepted a Van bearing registration number JK02D- 7596, DSB sources said.
Despite stopping the vehicle, the driver sped up the vehicle and tried to flee but was chased and apprehended by a team headed by DSB Head Jammu DySP Shabir Khan.
During checking, 24 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from the vehicle and the narcotic smuggler, who has been identified as Nitin Sharma, son of Suraj Parkash of Kunjwani, Gangyal was arrested. The accused was handed over to Narwal police for necessary action.
A case under FIR number 243/13 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered and investigation started.
