DSE publishes seniority list full of ‘errors’

Srinagar, Feb 5: The Directorate of School Education has published a seniority list of Chemistry teachers which is full of errors with the teachers who are seniors figuring at lower down the list.
The teachers said that the list—as long as 26 pages— has not been updated as they have been giving out the updated details to the concerned authorities from time to time.
The list has been published and sent to the Directorate office on January 27 and it was received on January 31, with those figuring in the list have been told to report for all the corrections necessary.
Those in the list are alleging that there are only errors in the list and the administration has resorted to mockery with regard to fixing the seniority.
“It has happened only with the teachers and the Masters of Chemistry—so many of those who have figured in the list have been promoted but the list shows them not promoted”, a teacher from district Baramulla told Excelsior over phone.
The teachers said that though the Directorate has asked that the errors should be reported back, “it has got it all wrong and we will have to send the updated particulars all over again,” they said.
They alleged that they have been giving the updated particulars for last more than three years, but the administration does not seem to be taking the issue seriously.
The lack of coordination between the higher-ups and those in the Directorate office can be gauged by the fact that these teachers have been giving out the updated information to the concerned, but they seem to have relied on the outdated information of last few seniority lists.
Earlier, the Directorate office published the seniority lists in 2018, 2019 and this was the third one which published in January 2020. “In between these lists those who have been promoted from teacher to in-charge lectures have been shown as teacher—thus affecting the seniority,” they said.
The teachers said that they have been asked to give out a representation which is something that they have done in the past as well. “They have not incorporated those changes; where did those files go, no body knows—we have got the receipts of those representations as well,” they said.
When the officials in the Directorate office were contacted they said that they will look into the matter and will do the required changes.
