SRINAGAR, May 9: The Director of School Education, Tasaduq Hussian, today issued a warning to private schools not to seek extra charges from students, saying that such actions could result in the withholding of their affiliations under the School Education Act.
The Director made these comments during the Divisional Level Y-20 talk, organized by the department to discuss ways to preserve the environment.
He said that committees have already been established at the zonal, district, and divisional levels about private schools seeking extra charges from students. He emphasized that strict actions will be taken against offenders, citing a recent complaint against a school whose management body was withdrawn as per the School Education Act and SRO regulations.
He also warned private schools against seeking extra charges, reminding them that such actions can result in the withholding of affiliations. “We do not want to harm the academic careers of students and would only resort to withholding affiliations, if necessary,” he said.
Regarding schools charging annual fees in violation of laid norms, the official acknowledged that the position of Fee Fixation Committee Chairman had been vacant for two months, but it has now been filled. He confirmed that the new chairman is listening to these issues and will soon call a meeting with parents associations to discuss and resolve them.
“Today we are hosting a divisional level competition. Right from the moment India attained the G20 presidency, we have been holding a series of activities starting from the school level, followed by the zonal level, and culminating in the divisional level. The winners of this competition will proceed to Kashmir University, where they will be recognized and awarded. Our primary goal is to empower these students to become ambassadors of the message of environmental preservation and to spread awareness about the measures being taken to protect it. Thus, the main objective is to protect our environment,” he said.
He added that the students were selected at the school level and were subsequently evaluated at the zonal level by a committee. “At the divisional level, the committees consisted of judges who assessed the students’ activities, content, and presentations and also deliberated with them on these three aspects,” he said.
