DSS activates ‘Mahila Wing’ with distinct women achievers

JAMMU, Feb 10:  Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) reorganized its Mahila Wing to augment and carry forward its aims and plans with special reference to women welfare and women empowerment.
The reorganization of the Mahila Wing was done during a meeting of the select committee of the DSS executive body held under the chairmanship of Sabha president and former Minister, Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak here at Dogra Bhawan.
Prof Anita Bilawaria, Dean, Faculty of Social Studies of JU, was named as convener cum vice chairperson of  Mahila Wing, while Retd Commerce Secretary, Vijay Kotwal, was made the chairperson. She offered her full support to carry forward the welfare schemes for underprivileged women in the State.
Principal MAM College, Jammu, Prof (Dr) Anita Sudan, due for retirement shortly, offered to work for the archeological field, and preservation of old historical records and manuscripts while Journalist Kanchan Sharma took upon herself media support and also to join in the archeological field.
Santosh Magotra, Ex Corporator and prominent social activist as well as educationist, Uma Katal joined to promote in the art and craft ventures. Dr Konika Bhagat took upon the Yoga training in the eight yogic disciplines called ‘Ashta Yoga’. E William and lecturer Vijaya Thakur was assigned the task of promotion of cultural events. Other active participants were Prof Kalpana Kesar and Kiran Rajput.
Members strongly desired that the annual feature of Dogra festival should be organized for a week and down to district levels as earlier. The festival should promote Dogriyat, the Dogra culture, art and music for which the local talent and artisans should be showcased from within the State instead of any outsourcing. They wanted the event to be taken over by DSS.
The newly formed Mahila Wing members expressed their dismay over parking of vehicles in the Zanana Park’s parking area and the presence of policemen hanging around the park, restricting free movement of women, to this unique exclusive facility for women only. They urged the administration to deploy lady cops there if it is required for any reason.
