JAMMU, Mar 22: A delegation of Dogra Sadar Sabha, led by Gulchain Singh Charak, President, called on N.N. Vohra, Governor, here at Raj Bhavan, today. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Governor containing the various problems and issues discussed at the 109th General Council Meeting (2014) of DSS.
The delegation apprised the Governor about their concern for the deterioration of the Dogra heritage and the very slow pace of work to implement the Government of India Project for preservation of Mubarak Mandi. They also appealed to the Governor to take up the matter of early restoration of collapsed wall of Bahu Fort and maintenance of this complex with the concerned authorities.
Several demands were brought to the notice of the Governor which included launch of Duggar Channel on the Doordarshan, revival of Jammu Festival throughout the region with increased participation of local artists, development of infrastructure at the pilgrimage sites of Purmandal- Utterbehni, tourists spots of Mansar- Sruinsar, Tawi River, stopping the practice of Darbar Move, problems of Refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971, enhancement in the remuneration of Numberdars and Chowkidars, payment of compensation to the affected farmers for crop damage due to the recent heavy rains, lifting of restrictions to utilize Khair-trees for Katha extraction, issuance of Dogra certificates, early completion of the settlement process, updating Latha/ Jamabandi records, problems of ex-servicemen, raising of Disaster Management Battalions in the State, strict check on leakage of question papers of professional and competitive examinations, special recruitment drives for the youth of border areas and Kandi belt.
The Governor assured the Sabha that the issues raised by them will be taken up with the concerned authorities.
Present in the meeting were Maj. Gen. G.S. Jamwal (retd.), Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, Prof. Anita Baloria, Capt. Sardar Singh, President Numberdars Association, Kulbir Singh, Janak Khajuria, Ramnik Singh, among others.
