JAMMU, May 18: President, Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS), Gulchain Singh Charak convened a special meeting of the executive body of the Sabha to review progress on various issues taken up by the DSS delegations with the Governor and his advisors after the dissolution of the State assembly.
The members pointed out that most of the matters stay un-acted upon or else very little has been done on the vital issues projected by the DSS. The executive body pointed out that although the Governor was very prompt and kind while allocating a sum of Rs 65 crore to start the Mubarak Mandi renovation work in the last financial year, yet no progress is visible on ground.
“Even the fate of the allocated amount is unclear, if it was at all released in the last financial year, carried forward, or else lapsed in the din of usual bureaucratic red tape,” the members said, adding in the ensuing Monsoon season the already crumbling structures of the precious, prestigious Dogra heritage may get obliterated or suffer additional extensive damages, beyond retrieval.
It was observed that the projection of the DSS regarding safe storage of the records and files of the archives was understood and some files were moved to the old information department building at Mubarak Mandi without renovation/repairs. The DSS members said that the amount of Rs 50 lakh released by the last elected Government for renovation has been spent in a most extravagant and inconsiderate manner as per the information received through RTI request.
The DSS members also pointed out that it is now a year when the Panchayat elections were held but these elected bodies are still toothless and resource less. The declared “three tier system” under the 73rd amendment is yet to see the light of the day since no Block, and District level councils have been formed.
The members decided to take out a peaceful rally and stage dharna on May 21 to press for their demands and submit the memorandum to Governor.
