DSS to launch ‘Save water, Save birds’ campaign on May 5

JAMMU, May 3:  In its annual feature, the Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) has planned to observe the annual ‘Save water, Save birds’ initiative on May 5, at 10: 30 AM at the Dogra Sadar Sabha Bhawan in collaboration with State Forest Department.
The initiative was launched six years back by this 114 years old sole representative body of Dogras devoted to the cause of Dogra region.
This act of public awakening and kindness towards the mute creatures has become very popular among the nature lovers and generous population who see it as a service to the creations of God largely dependent on human help with rampant urbanizations and vanishing natural water bodies.
The event involves talks on nature preservation and care of flora-fauna. That is followed by distribution of earthen ‘hang-pots’ which may be hung on the trees and other places at homes, schools and offices and filled with water regularly. This act of kindness can help many a thirsty tiny creatures in this season of summers when the mercury is rising record high.
Many prominent citizens along with luminaries from educational institutions, teaching fraternity, officers from the State Forest Department, philanthropists and students are expected to join in the noble effort and human cause. The DSS plans to distribute thousands earthen ‘hang pots’ among  the participants and the representatives of various educational and other institutes.
Briefing on the event, former minister Thakur Gulchain Singh said that besides saving the tiny lives of the birds, the event also acts as a reminder to the humanity to save water, which getting scarce, precious and costlier day by day. The predictions are that the world as a whole has to realize and act for preserving and saving water; for all we know, the futuristic wars may be fought over water, the  former minister said.
He exhorted people to join  this noble act in large numbers and keep the ‘hang pots’  filled and placed conveniently for the birds to quench their thirst in free from fear surroundings. He called upon the people to save precious potable water and adopt rain water harvesting for use in non-drinking purposes.
