JAMMU, Aug 10: Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan (DSS) Select Committee, in its meeting held at the residence of Ch. Lal Singh, its chief today demanded immediate release of all the political leaders of Jammu to enable them to meet public and share public concerns on the prevailing political situation in Jammu post abrogation of Article 370 and inconveniences faced by public after administrative restrictions which are still on political activists despite lifting Section 144.
The members appealed the administration to remove police presence from their houses and facilitate public meetings at their residences and outside. They also asked Government to explain to public as to why these leaders are under detention. “If they are so important they should rather be engaged with and their cooperation sought for maintaining peace in Jammu”.
The Select Committee of DSS appreciated abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution which gave a special status to J&K which rather than benefitting the public at large benefitted two dynastic families of Kashmir only who manipulated it to their advantage to rule J&K even if it required rigging the elections. In power they discriminated against Jammu and Ladakh, the meeting added.
The meeting said it deprived common man of the benefits of Indian democracy. Public is not clear on the outcome of sudden and unexpected political developments within Jammu and Kashmir after removal of 370. They are happy with downgrading of J&K State to a Union Territory. DSS Select Committee felt that largest Princely State of India just can’t be relegated to a UT and re-organised into two UTs. Hence it resolved to raise a demand for an independent State of Jammu vigorously and democratically in consultations with Jammu based political parties and social/religious organisations under a united leadership preferably led by Ch. Lal Singh.
Appreciating similar concerns shown by almost all political leaders/parties and social organisations also raising a demand of Jammu State, DSS Select Committee appealed all political parties to come on a common platform and purse the demand of Jammu State untidily. Recollecting promise given by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in his address to the nation on August 8, that it is not a permanent re-organisation and once the security situation improves in the Valley, J&K except Ladakh will be a State again, DSS Select Committee felt that if pursued vigorously and democratically, Jammu can obtain Statehood. Hence they appealed the public and political parties to unite for Jammu and support early release of all political leaders under house arrest.
Those present in the meeting included Senior VP DSS, Sunita Sharma, Dr. HR Sharma, Dr Ashok Sharma, Er. Sukhdev Singh, Ramesh Tickoo, Dhian Singh, Dr. Shubhnandan, Dr. Ravinder, Porf. Pardeep Bhagat, Dr. Sanndeep Singh, S. Daljiit Singh, Ramnek Singh, Raghav Khajuria, Ashok Bali and ex Principal Tajinder Singh. Col(red) J P Singh Chaired the meeting.
