JAMMU, Sept 13: Former Minister & president Dogra Sadar Sabha, J&K alongwith other members of delegation comprising of Prof. N. K. Dogra, Prem Sagar Gupta, K.P Singh and Gambhir Dev Singh Charak conducted the tour of different flood affected areas adjoining to the Indo-Pak border in Pargwal Island to take the stock of the situation and plight of the people who have suffered a huge loss of crops, houses, their animals and moveable and immoveable properties besides the intensively damaged roads, bridges and other communication systems. They also held interaction with locals especially Sarpanchs, Panchs, Numberdars, Chowkidars and other prominent persons including the members of the committee constituted by the effected people of the area, urged upon the Government to take immediate necessary measures to save the people who have heavily suffered due to the fury of devastating heavy rains and floods, which can happen any time in future also.
Mr Charak said that the “Band” at the bank of river Chenab especially from Nursery to Hamirpur Kona (Pattan) approximately one kilometer long, which has been washed away, be immediately constructed, damaged canals and distributaries be repaired so that proper irrigation facilities are restored, levelling of the agricultural land be carried out immediately to enable the farmers to cultivate the same.
DSS members showed their anguish that even till date, no Revenue staff has visited the area to assess the losses of the property including the crops etc and demanded that a special team of officers be deputed by the Revenue Department to visit the area and make assessment of crops etc. according to the ground situation. Since, no relief has been provided to them uptill now, the Government should immediately provide the ration and other essential commodities to them.
Since the whole Pargwal Island is sandwiched between Pakistan border from three sides and by Chenab river on the fourth side because of which they often become the victims of Pak firing and fury of Chenab river, hence, it is demanded that five marlas of plots as promised by the Government be allotted at the safer place immediately.
They also demanded that new bridge over Chenab for which the foundation stone has already been laid few years back, be started on war-footing. The whole crops have been lost due to floods and the farmers are unable to pay back the loan taken through “Kisan Credit Cards” at the time of sowing of paddy crops should be waved off. Whole of the Pargal Island be declared as backward area and granted status of RBA.
Government has procured seeds from the farmers about three months back but the amount has not yet been paid to them, which immediately be disbursed to them.
Sabha highly appreciates the work undertaken by the Indian Army for repairing the roads & bridges to connect the area.
Dogra Sabha also handed over 5 quintal of Sugar to the people of Local Relief Committee for its disbursement to the needy of the area and assured further help to the suffers.
