JAMMU, Nov 2: Dogra Swabhimaan Sangathan Party, in a meeting held today, discussed the Jammu Kashmir Public University Bill threadbare and demanded its withdrawal as soon as possible.
The meeting was convened by Chowdhary Lal Singh, chairman of the Party and attended by all the officer bearers of the party along with prominent citizens of Jammu.
“If all the Universities of J&K have already been established under the Acts duly passed by State Assemblies, then clubbing of all the Universities into a single Act raises questions on the intensions of the bureaucrats and Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha,” said Choudhary Lal Singh, while attacking the destructive policies of LG Government.
Chowdhary Lal Singh called the bill another attack on the regional identity by BJP as it did by allowing outsiders to vote in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Describing the LG Government as a proxy regime of BJP, he said that it was issuing controversial orders and notifications that are dangerous for the demographic as well as political health of Jammu.
Talking particularly about Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri, Chowdhary Lal Singh said that bureaucratic interference into the functioning of these two Universities will cause irreparable damage to the aspirations of local population because both these prominent Universities have been created by the religious Trusts of Jammu Province.
Chairman of DSSP urged Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to immediately withdraw the bill failing which Dogra Swabhimaan Sangathan Party will take to roads and bring the Union Territory to a standstill.
Dr Hari Dutt Shishu, General Secretary of DSSP and former President of Jammu University Research Scholars Association, who also addressed the meeting, observed that the bill snatches away the academic as well as administrative autonomy of the universities and will serve a death blow to the intellectual environment of the region. He informed that DSSP will submit a memorandum for withdrawal of the Bill to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, through the Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu.
