JAMMU, Nov 28: Duggar Manch and GAP, India, celebrated Kehari Singh Madhukar’s 91st birth anniversary by organizing a poetry competition for young poets of Dogra region and a Kavi Sammelan by prominent Dogri poets.
Youngsters ranging from 10 to 27 years participated in the event and the programme began with a tribute to Madhukar.
In his inaugural address, President Duggar Manch threw light on the life and contributions of Madhukar in the field of Dogri literature.
He also shared many anecdotes pertaining to his life as a social reformer.
The youngsters were apprised of Madhukar’s revolutionary poems like, Namian Minjra, Main Mela ra Janu, Padam Gokharu, Dola Kun Thapya, Kohlu and Parbat Panchi Bolya.
Other Dogri poets also recalled contributions of Madhukar towards Dogri literature like the songs that he composed for radio programmes and his tenure at J&K Cultural Academy.
The sponsors from GAP, Dr Gurudutta Japee of Gujarat and Dr Preeti Oza, Mumbai also spoke on the occasion. They invited the Dogri writers to publish their Dogri Compositions for GAP Bhasha Online Journal, so that Dogri connoisseurs can read them online and the writers of Dogri get an international platform, moreover it will also help in greater outreach of Dogri.
The suggestion was welcomed by all the participants. Later in the program, Gian Singh, Vijay Verma, Dr. Sarita Khajuria, Dr.Sushma Rani, Bishan Dardi, Khajur Singh, Neelam Verma, Gianeshwar and other poets recited their poems.
The programme was conducted by Prof Shalini Rana.
In the Dogri poetry competition around 25 young poets recited their poems.
The winners were given prize money of Rs 1000 each for the first prize. The prize winners in Junior category were Lalit, Sukriti, Anirudh, Satyam, Vishwas, Dushyant and Raghav.
In senior category, Ravinder Rao, Tania Jasrotia and Diksha Kahluria were the winners.
The judges were Prakash Premi, Ashok Khajuria and Sunita Bhadwal.
