Durga Ashtami celebrated with religious fervour, gaiety

JAMMU, Oct 2: Durga Ashtami was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety today and in this connection various functions were held in different temples and Ashrams.
The annual Maha Yagya which was to be held at Durga Nag Srinagar every year on the occasion of Durga Ashtami was organized here at its community hall at Anuradhapuram Sector 2 Barnai today.
This year the Maha Yagya was not held at Durga Nag Shrine, Srinagar on the occasion of Durga Ashtami as the city was affected by floods recently. The Maha Yagya started yesterday evening and the Puranahuti was performed this afternoon.
It was followed by serving of Prashad to devotees. A large number of devotees attended the function. The function was attended by members of the Trust including Dr Nakasi and Prem Lata Bakshi and its manager Krishan Lal.
Another function in connection was held at Geeta Satsang Ashram Muthi under the supervision of Swami Kumar Ji. A Maha Yagya was also performed on the occasion and devotees were served with Prashad. Swami  Ji on the occasion gave religious discourses and also asked the people to join the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan of  Prime Minster, Narindera Modi to make India clean.
The function was also attended by various KP leaders including Kundan Kashmiri president KPC. Later Swami Ji led a cleanliness drive in the Ashram.
He said that the nine day long Navratra Pooja will culminate in the Ashram tomorrow.
