Durga Nagar Extension, Dogra Nagar plunge into darkness

JAMMU, Aug 19: It may sound incredible but is fact that over a dozen transformers have got damaged and were replaced in Durga Nagar Extension and Dogra Nagar during last one month.
The last transformer which was installed on August 12 lasted for five days as it developed a snag on August 17 evening and since then the entire area of Durga Nagar extension and Dogra Nagar has again plunged into darkness.
Despite the repeated pleas of the people of the area, the PDD authorities have failed to install two separate transformers for two localities i.e one for Durga Nagar Extension and another for Dogra Nagar so that the load is divided, said Satish Poonchi, chairman, JK Peoples Front. He warned agitation in case the separate transformers were not installed for two localities. He said the PDD authorities were responsible for the problem of the people who have been passing sleepless nights due to power failure in the area.
Poonchi said people are constrained to come to streets and resort to road blockade in protest against the callousness of the Department. He said the increasing corruption in PDD has been a cause of the problem and alleged hundreds of transformers have developed fault in Jammu region during this Summer putting people to lot of trouble. He demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
