Durga Nagar facing water crisis, residents warn agitation

JAMMU, Dec 2: Durga Nagar Welfare Committee led by its president, Roshan Lal Raina and Corporator Ward 64, Kapil Singh Chib in an appeal to Chief Engineer, PHE have urged him to take immediate steps in restoration of tube wells at Durga Nagar and Muthi as the people in the area are facing acute scarcity of drinking water.
In a statement issued here, today they said that the motor at Durga Nagar Tube well as well as Muthi tube well develops snag of and on due to which water supply is hampered to the entire area.
They said despite the instructions of PHE authorities regarding supply of water on alternative days to Durga Nagar but people get water supply once or twice in a week. This way they are forced to store the drinking water for days together.
They said the gap of water supply gets prolonged day by day and authorities should take immediate steps in decreasing the same. Maintaining that the water supply is essential source for survival, they said delaying the same for days together is an injustice.
They said water supply remained paralyzed to the area for sixth consecutive day today. The Committee also demanded plugging of leakages of pipes. It warned that in case the problem was not solved the people will be constrained to launch agitation and approach Governor, S P Malik for redressal of the problem.
