SRINAGAR, Mar 17: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary today called for a thorough police investigation into the recent cases of missing persons who were later found dead in Jammu and Kashmir, stressing that the truth must be uncovered and the guilty held accountable.
Responding to questions about incidents in Kathua and Kulgam districts, Choudhary described them as “unfortunate” and called for immediate action. “These incidents are unfortunate. We have repeatedly urged the LG administration to take action, as the police fall under its jurisdiction. I hope that innocent lives are not lost again, that people can live in peace, and that such incidents come to an end,” he said.
“The Government stands with the people for their protection. We will never tolerate a situation where lives are lost and no action is taken. The Omar Abdullah-led Government is committed to ensuring security and will always stand by the people,” he added.
Reiterating that such incidents must not recur, he urged the police to conduct a thorough probe. “The police must uncover the truth and ensure that the guilty are punished. The Government is committed to public safety and cannot remain silent while such incidents happen,” he stated.
When asked whether the rise in missing persons cases was an attempt to weaken the National Conference (NC)-led Government, Choudhary dismissed the notion. “Those who are protected by God and the people of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be weakened. Anyone attempting to weaken us will, in turn, become weak,” he said.
Highlighting the National Conference’s contributions to the region’s development, the DyCM remarked, “Whatever infrastructure has been built here-schools, hospitals, roads, irrigation canals-has been constructed by the National Conference Government. Other parties came but did nothing except indulge in criticism. From Sheikh Abdullah to the current Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the National Conference has built Jammu and Kashmir.”
