Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 10: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today conducted a detailed inspection tour of different sewerage works under various stages of completion. While inspecting progress of work at Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) Bhagwati Nagar, the Deputy Chief Minister took a detail review of the progress of works being executed by NBCC and ERA. It was informed by the concerned executing agencies that work on first STP is nearly ninety percent complete and work on the other is going on at fast pace. He directed the executing agencies to gear up resources for early completion of left over works at STP besides laying of main trunk sewer, laterals and house connections. It is duty of the concerned department as well as executing agencies to plug the gaps so that those works which remain pending get completed at the earliest, he added. He warned and directed the concerned authorities to undertake continuous monitoring of the progress of work at the site and passed instructions to Chief Engineer, UEED to report the progress of different works at STP to Commissioner/Secretary, H&UD. Commissioner/Secretary, Housing & Urban Development (H&UD) Jeet Lal Gupta, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Pradeep Gupta, District Development Commissioner, Jammu Sanjeev Verma, DIG, Jammu-Kathua Range J.P.Singh, Commissioner, JMC K.L. Khajuria, Chief Engineers of PWD, PDD, UEED, PHE and other senior officers and engineers of ERA, NBCC, JDA and other line departments accompanied the Minister. Giving instructions to concerned engineers for fast tracking trunk sewer work at Gujjar Nagar, Mr. Tara Chand said that inter department coordination is vital for execution and called for redoubling efforts to finish the ambitious sewerage projects undertaken in the Jammu city. He took a serious view of haphazard constructions at different city locations and directed the Commissioner, JMC to present the cases for scrutiny by the higher authorities. Later, the Deputy Chief Minister visited the matador stand, Panjtirthi and issued instructions to JMC for preparing a project for multi-tier parking cum commercial complex at the site. He said the Government is contemplating to develop modern parking places at different available sites in the city. At Parade, the JMC authorities were asked to get a detailed project prepared for developing the available space into modern parking site so that people visiting the main commercial area get ample parking space and existing shopkeepers also get better space for their commercial activities. During inspection of Jammu Bus Stand, Mr. Tara Chand expressed deep displeasure at the poor sanitation and encroachments at the site. Keeping in view the dismal condition of the area, directions were issued for suspension of Administrator, bus stand and an inquiry was ordered under the Commissioner/Secretary.
