DyCM recalls role of Maharaja, Sheikh for accession; Ajatshatru demands Bharat Ratna for Hari Singh

JAMMU, Oct 26: To commemorate the merger of J&K with Indian Union various functions were held here today on the occasion of Accession Day in different parts of Jammu region.
A grand function was organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) near the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh at Tawi bridge, wherein party leaders threw light on 1947 events leading to the Accession of the State  with India and the contribution of  Maharaja Hari Singh.
The programme started with the address by Grievance Cell Convenor Brig. Anil Gupta.
Addressing the function, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh termed the accession of State with Indian Union made by then Maharaja Hari Singh and endorsed by the towering leader of the State, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah as full and final. He said after the State signed the instrument of accession with Union of India on this day in 1947 and which was later endorsed by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah it became a historical document to which no power on earth can challenge.
He paid tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh as well as Sheikh Abdullah for their timely and well calculated decision as joining hands with world’s vibrant democracy was in the overall interest of the people of all the three regions of the State.
He saluted Maharaja Hari Singh for his decision on accession, which was legally and constitutionally valid and people from all the three regions of the State too had endorsed it.
Bali Bhagat said that gone are the days when opposition parties used to mislead the people about the accession of the State with India and encouraging the secessionist forces those operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
State General Secretary Dr. Narinder Singh and Chief Spokesperson Sunil Sethi also spoke on the occaison
BJP state general secretary Munish Sharma conducted the proceedings of the programme while Jammu District President & MLA Rajesh Gupta and MLC Ajatshatru Singh presented the vote of thanks.
Ajatshatru Singh who is also the grand son of Maharaja while describing his decision great and farsighted demanded that former ruler deserves to be bestowed with Bharat Ratna. He demanded that Jammu Airport be named on him and the Accession Day be declared as holiday.
Member of Parliament Shamsher Singh Manhas, MLC Ashok Khajuria Col. Uttam Singh, MLA  Sat Sharma, MLC Ramesh Arora,  Usha Choudhary,  Sakina Bano, Ashok Koul, Suresh Jamwal, Nirmal Kamal, Mamta Singh, and many other BJP leaders attended the function.—
Accession Day was also observed by VHP at a function held at Shakti Ashram Rehari here today under the chairmanship of its patron Dr Rama Kant Dubey.
While speaking Dr. Dubey threw  light on the historic Accord of Accession of J&K State by its ruler Maharaja Hari Singh with the Union of India. This Accession was a basic decision with which the fate of the State was permanently linked with rest of the country.
Dr. Dubey said that hurdles were unnecessary created by some vested elements who virtually were adamant to handover Jammu & Kashmir to Pakistan. No doubt State was a Muslim majority but Late Maharaja had full right to decide its fate, whether to accede to India or Pak, he added.
Leela Karan Sharma, Shakti Dutt Sharma, Prabhu Dayal, Rajesh Gupta, Surinder Aggarwal, Anil Padha, Sudershan Khajuria, and others  were also present in the programme.
In connection with celebration of Accession Day a group of KPs as usual visited the Bagoona now called Rajinderpora the native village of Brig Rajinder Singh in Samba district and paid floral tributes to him. The KP group comprising of intellectuals including S K Bhat, retd Principal, Shiban Khybari, columnist, Raj Nath Bhat, Ravi Raina, Ashok Kumar Dhar, B L Handoo, Ravi Ji Kaul, Mrs S K Bhat, Ramesh Manwati, of PK, V K Kashkari and others. They paid glowing tributes to Brig Singh for his supreme sacrifices and saving the rest of J&K State form the Pak raiders there in paying a way for its accession with India.
On the occasion of Accession Day, Kathua unit of BJP under the leadership of the Party’s State general secretary and MLA Kathua, Rajiv Jasrotia organised a function and hoisted National Flag to celebrate the day. Speaking on the occasion, Jasrotia   said that the wise decision taken by Maharaja Hari Singh to accede to India at the time of partition displayed his patriotism and each one of us needs to salute him. He said that the day should be celebrated as a festival and each one of us must take pledge to fight all such forces who want to take this State away from India. He said that the role of the then RSS chief Guru Golwalkar was appreciable as he also made efforts in convincing the Maharaja to accede to India as it was the only option to ensure safety and security of the people in the State.
