e-Governance

A big and happy change is in the offing in respect of huge paperwork that is performed day in and day out in various departments and establishments of the Government. The change is to bring in e-Governance meaning digitalizing all files in the Secretariat so that any information on any case at any time can be obtained without hassles and efforts. This is bound to bring in a big revolution in the red tape system that has always been under severe criticism and scrutiny. This is the modern age and the age of electronics. We should have shifted to e-Governance many years ago. We have delayed it nevertheless even if belated, it has finally come and to the relief of thousands of people who have to cool their heels at the Secretariat throughout the year to know the status of their cases and files.
Electronic governance is bound to save time, reduce labour, ensure safety and security of record and make it convenient to retrieve information within minutes.  The new IT-enabled file-tracking system implemented by J&K e-Governance Agency (JKeGA) is aimed at automating file, correspondence and document tracking within Government offices. The system is designed to be the central repository and tracking mechanism for all Government files and correspondences. It will facilitate a consistent watch over the movement of various important files and documents in the Government offices. We endorse the opinion of the Chief Minister that e-Governance is a big initiative towards good governance and it is a remedy to many ills that had crept into the system. If the system succeeds at Secretariat level, obviously it will trickle down to the level of district level and that will be great news for the people of the State. We congratulate the Chief Minister for this big step forward.
