RAJOURI, Nov 5: A large group of e-rickshaw drivers gathered at Bela Bridge in Rajouri town today, voicing strong concern over an assault on a fellow auto- driver by a local resident.
The drivers demanded immediate action, calling for the arrest of the individual responsible for the attack.
The protestors shared that they rely on their work as e-rickshaw drivers to support their families, despite many of them holding degrees, including Postgraduate and B.Ed qualifications. With limited job opportunities available, they have opted this profession as a means to sustain themselves and their families.
They emphasized that their work is a dignified effort to support their loved ones, and they should not be subjected to abuse or violence in their line of duty.
“We are here to make an honest living and support our families,” one protester stated. “This assault is not just an attack on one individual but on the entire community of e-rickshaw drivers who work day and night to make ends meet.”
The drivers have urged the local authorities to act swiftly, ensuring the safety and respect of all individuals who contribute to the community’s transportation needs. They are hopeful that the administration will address their concerns and take prompt action to prevent such incidents in the future.
