EAP on value addition in fishes held in Ganderbal

SRINAGAR, Jan 31: KVK Ganderbal, in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries and Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-K, today conducted a one-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme (EAP) under MSME on “Value Addition in Fishes – A Step towards Entrepreneurship” for fish farmers and unemployed youth.
The focus of the program was to promote entrepreneurship among the youth involved in the fisheries sector and enlighten them about various fish products with potential for entrepreneurship.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Suja Nabi, Scientist in Fruit Science, who provided an overview of the program.
The inaugural lecture, titled “Scope and Prospects of Value Addition in Fisheries,” was delivered by Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist & Head of KVK Ganderbal.
He emphasized the need for participants to enhance their skills in post-harvest management and value addition in different fish species, highlighting ample opportunities for vertical and horizontal expansion.
Dr. Salman Chalkoo, Assistant Director of Fisheries, provided a comprehensive overview of various schemes under HADP, stressing the participants to actively avail the benefits offered by the Government through various programs.
Dr. Faisal Rashid, Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-K, enlightened the audience about various fish products and their marketing.
A discussion with the participants was then undertaken to understand their issues in the fisheries sector, and appropriate actions were communicated for resolution.
The Head of KVK Ganderbal informed that the Department of Fisheries and KVK Ganderbal are committed to promoting this sector in the Ganderbal district.
