NEW DELHI, Oct 10:
The Election Commission (EC) is expected to take a call on holding of the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir next week, after seeking feedback from its team that had visited the flood-hit State this week to take stock of ground- situation in the affected areas.
Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath said that the Commission team has returned after holding deliberations with local authorities and people and having the first hand stock of the situation in there.
“The team will make its presentation before the Commission on its feedback and assessment on Monday or Tuesday and then the Commission may take a call over the issue and course of action,” Mr Sampath said.
A team led by Deputy Election Commission Vinod Zutshi had toured the State between October 7 and 9 to make assessment on prevailing situation in the wake of unprecedented floods that played havoc in the State last month.
The Assembly elections in the State are due to be held by January 19, however, the uncertainty over prospects of timely polls still prevails in view of the widespread floods last month. (UNI)
