EC orders repolling in one Medhar polling booth

JAMMU: The Election Commission today ordered repolling in a polling station in Medhar Assembly segment in Poonch district on December 7.

“The Election Commission of India today ordered re-poll at polling station no. 34-Chungan-B of 86-Assembly constituency Mendhar,” an EC spokesman said tonight.

The EC under Section 68 (1) (b) of the Jammu and Kashmir Representation of the Peoples Act, 1957, declared the poll taken on December 2 at the said polling station as void.

“Some people had entered the polling booth and captured the EVM. After clearing them from booth, we tried to re-start the polling process, but it became a law and order problem,” Returning Officer of Mendhar Assembly constituency Rakesk Kumar said.

The EC has fixed December 7 for conducting fresh poll at the polling station between 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. (AGENCIES)
