SUCHETGARH, Mar 16: Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary JKPCC and DDC Suchetgarh, today alleged that Election Commission of India is deliberately delaying Assembly polls in J&K.
Addressing to the media persons Tony expressed anguish over the Election Commission’s decision for not holding Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
The senior Congress leader said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are once again feeling cheated at the hands of both the Election Commission and the BJP. It is highly disappointing to witness the step-motherly treatment given by the BJP to the people of Jammu and Kashmir by not allowing the Election Commission to announce Assembly elections. He asserted that the ruling Govt at the Centre has snatched away the rightful autonomy and statehood from the people, leaving them angry and betrayed.
Tony reiterated the importance of conducting Assembly elections in the region, questioning why elections for Lok Sabha were being held while the Assembly elections were being deliberately delayed.
“The BJP has miserably failed to protect the rights and interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. By restricting the Election Commission from announcing the Assembly polls for Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP has once again demonstrated their complete disregard for democracy and fair representation,” he said.
He further emphasized that this delay in conducting assembly elections clearly exposes the fear of the BJP in potentially losing the support of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a clear betrayal of the trust placed in the democratic process, he added.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve better than this betrayal. We stand in solidarity with them in their struggle for justice and democracy,” he affirmed.
Earlier, Tony inaugurated a series of long-awaited road projects worth Rs 3 crores in Suchetgarh.
