ECI revises schedule for Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls

SRINAGAR, Sept 21: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the schedule of Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls in all Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies in the State with January 1, 2017 as the qualifying date.
According to a notification issued today by Chief Electoral Officer, the draft publication of electoral rolls in Kashmir Division would be made on October 31 and in Jammu Region and Ladakh area on September 30 whereas period of filing of claims and objections would be from October 31 to November 30 in Kashmir and from September 30 to October 31 in Jammu region and Ladakh area.
Similarly, reading of relevant part/section of photo electoral rolls in Gram Sabha/local bodies, and RWA meeting and verification of names would be done from November 5 to November 19 in Kashmir Division and from October 1 to October 10 in Jammu region and Ladakh area.
Special campaign with booth level agents of political parties for receiving claims and objections would be conducted from November 13 and November 20 in Kashmir Division and the same would be done on October 15 and October 22 in Jammu region and Ladakh area, says the notification.
Meanwhile, disposal of claims and objections would be done in Kashmir Division and Jammu and Ladakh regions on December 15 and November 15 respectively, while updating the database, merging of photographs, updating the control tables and preparation and printing of supplementary lists would be done on December 31 and December 10 respectively.
Final publication of electoral rolls would be done next year on January 10 in Jammu and Ladakh regions and on January 14 in Kashmir, reads the notification.
Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer, Shantmanu today held an interactive session with students of IIMC, Jammu Centre.
While speaking in the session, Chief Electoral Officer asked the budding journalists to approach right persons to get correct information for which knowing the Government administrative hierarchy at each level by the journalists is of utmost importance.
He further said that media / journalists are source of information to the society, as such, factual position needs to be disseminated among the public, which can be gathered from the appropriate authority at the source.
Shantmanu spoke at length about the role of Election Commission of India towards larger participation of eligible voters in the election besides ensuring strict adherence to the model code of conduct.
Special Officer, In- Charge of Jammu Centre, Manohar Khajuria while giving a brief resume of the course being undertaken in the railhead campus said that the permanent campus would be set up at Keran (Ban Talab) Jammu for which land has been taken over by IIMC. He also informed that students of Jammu Centre have secured first position during its first three batches at all India level.
