Editor who wrote forged letters to Govt identified

Srinagar, Mar 3: Police have identified the editor of a local newspaper who had allegedly forged signatures of Jammu and Kashmir Press Association (JKAP) Ghulam Hassan Kaloo and written letters to Government against over three dozen newspapers.
An official said that the editor has admitted his guilt. He had forged the signatures of Kaloo and wrote letters on his behalf to Department of Information that these newspapers didn’t have proper content. He alleged that these newspaper lift the content from other national and international newspapers and have no content of their own.
He has also written that these newspapers are not following the new media policy of the government. He urged the government to stop advertisements to these newspapers.
Meanwhile, Kaloo, who is also Editor in Chief of English daily newspaper, “The Mirror of Kashmir” has called a meeting of all editors of the Kashmir based newspapers tomorrow at Press Club, Srinagar to discuss the issue in the light of new facts of the forged letters.
Kaloo said a case has already been registered in Police Station (PS) Kothibagh on writing forged letters to various quarters against the newspapers. He said Arshad Mir, Editor of “Kashmir Headlines” has confessed his crime of writing these forged letters.
He said since an FIR has been lodged to this effect in the PS Kothibagh and the accused has confessed the guilt, so final decision has to be taken in this regard at the meeting.
