JAMMU, Sept 15: All Jammu and Kashmir Electric Department Linemen and Workers Union (EDLWU) held a demonstration and projected their long pending demands.
Large number of lineman and workers engaged in Electric Department assembled outside Press Club and held protest. They raised slogans against the Government for not redressing their issues.
General secretary of the Union Girdhari Lal Bhagat while speaking demanded release of benefits to those who expired or became physically handicap partially or permanently on account of electric shocks while performing their duties.
He said that the PDD Inspection Division has kept numerous formalities to complete in respect of deaths and injuries to the workers and employees, which are unable to fulfill.
He urged the authorities to minimize the formalities. In case of casualties, death certificate and FIR should be considered and medical reports in case of injuries.
Bhagat further stated that numerous RTIs are filed to get details of compensation, which the department has paid to the family members of the deceased and also to those, who received injuries, while performing duties.
He appealed to the Administrative Department of the Electric and Maintenance Wing, PDD and the PDD Civil Secretariat to investigate the matter. He also sought the details of the compensation provided to the family members of the deceased and also to those, who received injuries.
He also demanded separate seniority lists of all the linemen and workers as in the recently conducted DPC, the junior were promoted. He also demanded inquiry into this matter.
He also demanded CP Fund in respect of employees, daily rated workers, need base workers and casual labourers.
He also stressed upon the department to speed up the functioning of the welfare fund scheme meant for the benefit of the workers.
Among others present were Tara Chand Lakhotra, Surinder Kumar, Kartar Nath, Ashiq Hussain, Paras Ram, Kewal Krishen, Mangat Ram, Suresh Kumar, Krishen, etc.
