JAMMU, Nov 20: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla said that the Government was committed to extend education facilities to deprived and underprivileged children.
He said this while addressing a gathering, after inspecting ongoing development works at Naveen Shiksha Kendra High School (NSK) at Channi Himmat, here today,
Bhalla assured every help and support to the organisations and institutions imparting education to the underprivileged children.
Bhalla said the Government has taken various initiatives to improve the living conditions in slum and backward basties by providing them all basic amenities.
President, NGO Sawera, Dr Gurmeet Singh, Principal NSK, Vijay Sharma, besides Rangil Singh, Dr RR Khajuria, YP Khajuria, BS Salathia, Ram Gopal Sharma, SK Dogra, parents were also present.
Bhalla said that under flagship Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) scheme, two room flat accommodations are being created at Sunjwan for rehabilitation of city slum dwellers.
He said work on the Rs 19 crore project was going on war-footing and would be completed within prescribed time frame. He said after the completion of the project, residents of Rajiv Nagar, Bhagwati Nagar and other slum dwellers would be provide suitable accommodation.
Minister said the colony would be developed with all basic amenities like safe drinking water, road connectivity, healthcare, recreational park and electric facilities.
Responding to the demands of NSK management, Bhalla assured that all infrastructural facilities, besides free books, uniform, scholarship, midday meal and sports material would be provided to the school under SSA scheme.
He said that he has already sanctioned Rs 5 lakh for construction of examination hall and computer lab out of his CDF and assured more financial help to meet other infrastructural needs in the school.
On the occasion, students of the NSK presented a colourful cultural programme which was highly applauded by the audience.
Later, Raman Bhalla distributed mementos, blankets and dictionaries among the meritorious students of NSK.
