JAMMU, May 29: Minister of State for Technical Education, Information, Parliamentary Affairs, Social Welfare, CAPD and Rural Development Vikar Rasool Wani today laid foundation stone of additional blocks at Girls Higher Secondary School Banihal.
The additional accommodation project includes construction of five class rooms at a cost of Rs 88.63 lakh under district plan and another block under RMSA involving a cost of Rs 29 lakh.
Addressing the gathering after laying of foundation stone, Vikar said that education and health have been flagged as priority sectors by the State Government by focusing on development of infrastructure and expansion of the reach of these vital facilities to the far flung areas.
Listing the projects under education sector, the Minister said that new school buildings have been constructed at Khari, Shagan, Banihal, Kaskoot, Trigam, Hinjhaal, Chapnari, Amkote, Chachihaal, Chamalwas, Checknarwah, Senabati and Maligam.
“In addition to this more than 300 schools have either been upgraded and equal number of ReT teachers have been appointed during last five years”, he said adding that Rs 1 crore has already been spent on the development and expansion of playground of Boys Higher Secondary School Banihal by the Youth Sports Department, while construction of a complex for accommodation is in offing for the same institution.
He said that a project proposal for construction of overhead bridge for crossing of people and students near Government Higher Secondary School Banihal will be taken up with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) very soon. He also announced to provide funds out of his CDF for purchasing 500 desks for the GHSS Banihal.
In response to the demands, he directed R&B Department to prepare estimates for construction of Examination Hall for the school, while the CEO was directed to take up the issue of shortage of staff with the concerned quarters.
“Under the Health Sector, additional complex at Sub District Hospital Banihal is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 22 crore is likely to be completed very soon and commissioned soon for better health services for the people of the area”, the Minister said and added that a large number of dispensaries have been established in every nook and corner of district to provide better health care to the poor masses at their doorsteps. He told that the work on the recently announced Nursing College at Banihal will commence very soon.
