JAMMU, Mar 16: Naeem Akhter, Minister for Education, called on N.N. Vohra, Governor, here at the Raj Bhavan today. This was Mr. Akhter’s first formal meeting with the Governor after assuming charge of the Education Minister.
Mr. Akhter discussed with the Governor the various initiatives which are being taken by the School and the Higher Education Departments to promote the cause of education in J&K.
The Governor emphasized the very vital responsibility of the Education Department for providing high quality education for grooming the present and future generations of youth. The Governor and Mr. Akhter also discussed various important issues relating to regulating the growth and development of all institutions of higher education in the State.
Professor I.A. Hamal, Vice Chancellor, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University also called on Mr Vohra and discussed the ongoing academic and extra- curricular activities in the University and the concerted efforts which are being made to augment infrastructure development and faculty recruitment.
The Governor shared with Prof. Hamal some of his concerns about the need to take urgent measures for progressively upgrading the standards of teaching and research in all the institutions of higher education in the State.
Prof. Devanand, Acting Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu, called on Governor and briefed him about the to-date construction status of the new campus of the Central University which is coming up at village Bagla, Raya Suchani in Samba district, recruitment of faculty, and certain issues relating to the administrative and academic functioning.
The Governor urged the Vice- Chancellor to ensure that there was no compromise in laying the foundation of high academic standards and planned pursuit of research facilities in the Varsity. He also urged Prof. Devanand to ensure very early completion of the upcoming campus.
