JAMMU, May19: An educational-cum-motivational tour for the 20 children belonging to poor families from the border villages of Akhnoor tehsil to the cities of Mumbai and Pune, was flagged off by the Commander Kalidhar Brigade, Akhnoor, yesterday, in a function attended by students, teachers, parents, and officials of civil administration and Army.
The tour has been organised by the Army as part of the ongoing ‘Op Sadbhavana’ to show-case the development of the country to the school children from the under-developed regions.
The officials and the elders who attended the function were unanimous in their opinion that these tours have certainly helped the society particularly the youth who with this exposure are in position to make informed choice with regards to opportunities of higher education and professional courses.
The children will be taken to places of historical and cultural importance and institutions of educational interests in Mumbai and Pune and will meet eminent personalities in both the cities including the Governor of Maharashtra, during the ten days’ tour .During the flagging off ceremony the senior Army Officers impressed up on the children the important role the youth of the area have to play for ushering in progress and maintaining peace and harmony in the society. The Commander has also assured the gathering of the continued support of the Army in all their endeavors towards progress and development.
