Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘No toilets, drinking water for students….”DE Jan 11, 2017.
It is a fact that most of the Government schools in the State do not have the provision of drinking water and toilets, particularly, in remote rural areas. Even if toilets exist in some schools, they usually remain in shabby and unhygienic conditions, as nobody cleans them on regular basis. Even in schools located in urban areas, toilets are in a bad condition. These toilets reek of stench and foul. The children, particularly, girl students find themselves in embarrassing situation while using them. The male boys manage it in the open.
The Education Department, it seems, does not have a proper planning in this matter. It may be because of lack of funds or lack of interest or both these requirements.
If educational standard in Government schools is to be raised, there is urgent need to initiate some reforms. The policy needs to be drafted from primary to higher secondary level. Every aspect of education has to be taken into account, cosmetic measures will hardly suffice.
Yours etc…
