Educational institutions celebrate 78th Independence Day with patriotic fervor

JAMMU, Aug 16: Educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir celebrated the 78th Independence Day with enthusiasm, featuring patriotic songs, dances, and cultural events, fostering a spirit of unity and honouring the sacrifices of freedom fighters.
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu celebrated the 78th Independence Day with great fervor as part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.” The event began with a guard of honor, followed by the hoisting of the national flag by Director Prof. B.S. Sahay. In his speech, Prof. Sahay emphasized India’s progress in areas like UPI, digital literacy, and global health, urging the IIM community to commit to nation-building through academic excellence and responsibility.
The CSIR Indian Institute of Integrated Medicines (IIIM) Jammu marked the 78th Independence Day with vibrant celebrations at its Jammu campus, with parallel events at Srinagar, Leh, and field stations. Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director of CSIR-IIIM, hoisted the national flag and took the salute during a ceremonial march past by institute security personnel and students from the Regional Research Laboratory High School.
IIMC Jammu celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day with enthusiasm. Dr. Dilip Kumar, Regional Director, hoisted the national flag and delivered a motivational speech on “Swatantra,” urging pride in Indian identity and vision for a “Viksit Bharat.”
The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at Cluster University of Jammu. The event began with flag hoisting by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Bechan Lal, followed by the National Anthem. In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor paid tribute to freedom fighters and urged students to take pride in their heritage and contribute to India’s prosperity.
NIT Srinagar celebrated the 78th Independence Day with enthusiasm. Director Prof. A. Ravinder Nath unfurled the tricolor on campus, followed by a grand parade by the security wing. The event, led by Dean Students Welfare Prof. Abdul Liman, was attended by Registrar Prof. Atikur Rahman, Deans, HODs, faculty, and staff.
Central University of Kashmir (CU Kashmir) celebrated the 78th Independence Day with great fervor at its Tulmulla Campus. Vice-Chancellor Prof. A Ravinder Nath hoisted the National Flag, with Deans, faculty, staff, and students in attendance. The event featured a march past by the security wing and students from the Department of Physical Education. In his address, Prof. Nath highlighted the University’s progress in academic expansion, research initiatives, and collaborations.
The Central University of Jammu celebrated the 78th Independence Day with a flag hoisting by Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain, followed by the National Anthem and an NCC Parade. Prof. Jain emphasized CUJ’s role in national progress, highlighting achievements such as an H index increase to 11, 17 patent filings, and 250 student placements.
University of Jammu today celebrated the Day with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. Vice Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai hoisted the Tricolour. “The nation will always hold deep gratitude for the extraordinary contributions of our freedom fighters,” Prof Rai said while addressing the students, scholars, officers and the staff. He also released balloons at the Fountain Plaza to mark the Independence Day celebrations. Earlier in his welcome address, Dean Students Welfare, Prof Prakash Antahal informed about the initiatives taken by the University in connection with the celebrations of 78th Independence Day.
In a heartfelt address to the employees on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day, Prof BN Tripathi, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu delivered a stirring speech that paid tribute to the immense sacrifices made by India’s freedom fighters. All the statutory officers, large number of teaching, non-teaching members, along with their families and students participated in the program. Students also showcased their talents through patriotic songs and speeches reflecting the spirit of the occasion.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) celebrated the 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm. Prof. Pragati Kumar, Vice Chancellor, unfurled the tricolour and delivered a compelling address on India’s progress towards self-reliance, despite historical challenges.
The University of Kashmir (KU) celebrated 78th Independence Day with great fervor across its campuses, honoring the legacy of freedom fighters and martyrs. Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan led the flag-hoisting ceremony at the main campus, emphasizing the importance of unity in building a prosperous and inclusive India.
Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor of Islamic University of Science and Technology, hoisted the national flag for the 78th Independence Day celebration. He emphasized India’s global role, the importance of entrepreneurship, and the need to combat drug addiction.
Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University celebrated Independence Day with patriotic fervour and gaiety. Prof Akbar Masood, Vice Chancellor BGSBU, received the guard of honour and unfurled the National flag. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Akbar paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters who paid supreme sacrifices during the freedom struggle.
The Udhampur Campus, University of Jammu was alive with patriotic fervor today as it celebrated Independence Day with a series of inspiring events and speeches. The celebrations began with the flag hoisting ceremony followed by a soulful rendition of the National Anthem in the campus premises. Chief Guest on the occasion was Romesh Sharma. Students actively participated in the cultural program.
Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS), Soura Srinagar Director Dr. Ashraf Ganie hoisted the national flag at SKIMS on the 78th Independence Day. The event featured a notable parade by the SKIMS Security team, with participation from heads of Departments, Sectional Heads, and all SKIMS employees. Management and staff members of Shri Sain Charitable Trust for Higher Education and Research, Nardni Raipur (Jammu) viz. Jammu Institute of Ayurveda and Research, Trikuta Degree College, Trikuta College of Education, Jammu College of Physiotherapy, Trikuta College of Physical Education and Sain Charitable Institute of Paramedical Sciences celebrated the Independence Day with patriotic fervor. The National Flag was unfurled in the College premises by Suman Sharma, Chairperson of the Trust, along with other Management Committee Members, Dr Nitin Mahajan and Jasudha Sharma.
SPMR College of Commerce commemorated Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour. The day’s events, held on the college campus, brought together students, faculty, and staff in a celebration of the nation’s history, culture, and values. The festivities began with flag hoisting ceremony by the College Principal Prof (Dr) Rajinder Singh. NCC Unit of the College presented salute and Guard of Honour.
Government College of Education, Canal Road, Jammu, celebrated Independence Day with great fervor. The event began with the hoisting of the National Flag by Principal Dr Jyoti Parihar, followed by cultural performances by the students.
Dr Parihar paid rich tribute to the freedom fighters, urging everyone to honor their sacrifices by performing their duties with honesty and dedication. The event concluded with a plantation drive and the distribution of prizes to participants.
In Reasi, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) celebrated the day with great enthusiasm. The program, under the stewardship of Vice-Chancellor Prof B N Tripathi and Director Extension Prof Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-Jammu, saw active participation from local farmers.
Chief Scientist Dr Banarsi Lal emphasized the significance of the event, urging participants to adopt innovative farming techniques and natural farming to enhance income and employment.
The Naib Sarpanch of the area, Kamal Singh, paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters, stressing the importance of communal harmony, peace, and brotherhood.
GDC Ramnagar celebrated the Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor under the patronage of Principal, Prof (Dr) Bhavnaish Chand Anthal. The event witnessed the active participation of both faculty members and students. The celebration commenced with the hoisting of the national flag by the College Principal, accompanied by singing of the national anthem.
Bhartiya Group of Colleges, Udhampur celebrated Independence Day with flag hoisting ceremony performed by Madhu Khajuria, Chairperson of the Group of Colleges. Principal of the College, Dr S.K Magotra, addressed the students and faculty members regarding the freedom struggle and contribution of youth for the nation. The celebration was filled with colorful and vibrant cultural performances by the students of the colleges.
To commemorate Independence Day, flag hoisting was performed at GDC Paloura (Mishriwala) by Principal of the College, Dr Kulvinder Kour. Students of the College presented various colourful cultural programmes. Many students also spoke about the sacrifices of our soldiers and saluted our martyrs. The event commenced with unfurling of the National Flag by the Principal, followed by rendition of the National Anthem by students. The celebration started with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Principal, while the National Anthem was sung by the students and faculty with great pride. This was followed by a song presented by the students of 5th semester.
In GDC Kargil, the National Flag was hoisted by senior faculty of the College Prof Diskit Angmo. Faculty members of the College, Student Council and Executive Members were also present on the occasion. College NCC Cadets presented a beautiful patriotic song after the flag hoisting.
SG Government Degree College Doongi celebrated 78th Independence Day with a vibrant and deeply patriotic event that paid homage to the sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters. The day began with a solemn flag hoisting ceremony, led by Principal, Prof (Dr) Jaipal Singh. As the Tricolor ascended into the sky, the National Anthem filled the air, evoking a strong sense of pride and unity among the gathered students, faculty, and guests.
Government Polytechnic Bikram Chowk (Jammu) celebrated the Day with great fervor. On the occasion, Principal Arun Bangotra hoisted the National Flag. The HoDs, staff, students of the Institution, Board of Technical Education, CRPF personals, J&K police and children from Staff quarters took part in Independence Day celebration. National Anthem was sung by everyone after the unfurling of Tricolor.

GDC Thannamandi holds two-week long Plantation Drive to celebrate Independence Day. During the fortnight between August 1-16, over 100 plants of different species of medicinal, ornamental, indigenous and forest flora planted in the botanical garden and college campus under the patronage of Dr Farooq Ahmed, Principal of the College. Government Degree College (Boys) Kathua celebrated the 78th Independence Day with zeal. Principal Prof. Seema Mir hoisted the flag, followed by a march past and cultural performances. She highlighted unity and the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Meritorious students and volunteers were honored, and the event ended with the National Anthem.
Govt. College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, celebrated the 78th Independence Day with great fervor. Principal Dr. Meeru Abrol hoisted the flag, followed by the National Anthem. The campus was adorned with national flags and tricolor decorations.

Vishwa Bharati College of Education marked Independence Day with a flag-hoisting ceremony led by Dr. S.K. Koul, President of the Vishwa Bharati Women’s Welfare Institution. Sant Mela Singh College of Education Digiana, Jammu, celebrated Independence Day with Prof. S.P.S. Dutta, (Prof. Emeritus, University of Jammu, as the chief guest. He hoisted the national flag in the presence of Principal, staff, and students. Prof. Dutta emphasized the importance of loyalty and unity for national prosperity.
Dogra Law College celebrated Independence Day with vibrant festivities. The event featured a piloting ceremony by Akash Charak and Yuvraj Singh, a guard of honor with Vishal Verma and others, and a moving welcome address by Danish Tak. The celebrations at 2 J&K Battalion NCC Jammu began with the flag hoisting ceremony, followed by screening of live address by the PM and then honorary Capt Mohd Sadiq (Retired), a distinguished Shaurya Chakra Awardee from 7 JAK RIF, delivered a motivational lecture to 500 NCC Cadets.
Heritage School commemorated the Day with spirited celebrations across its KG, Primary and Senior Wings under the guidance of Principal Akash Pradhan. The day began with a Special Morning Assembly where students presented poems and speeches, followed by a spirited rendition of the National Song “Vande Mataram.” The celebrations included a scintillating dance performance, an Inter-House Patriotic Song, and a Dance Competition. Staff and students took the ‘Panch Pran Pledge’ to uphold national integrity. The school was filled with patriotism as students participated in Collage Making, Poster Making, and Kite Making activities, honouring the sacrifices of freedom fighters.
Army Public School Ratnuchak celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day with enthusiasm and national pride. The event began with a special assembly where Principal Sonal Sharma hoisted the National Flag. Student’s recited slogans of freedom fighters, performed patriotic songs and dances, and delivered speeches on Independence Day’s significance.
R.M Public School celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm. The event featured patriotic skits, cultural activities, and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Chief Engineer, Rajesh Gupta, XEN PWD Arit Gupta, and (Retd) Assistant Commissioner Sharat Chander Khajuria were special guests. Chairman Rameshwar Mengi and Director Rakshan Mengi addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of independence.
Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation, and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC) Jammu, in collaboration with Louis Braille Memorial Residential School (Blind), celebrated the 78th Independence Day. The event, held at the school, featured a cultural program by children with special needs from both institutions. Dr. Rohnika Sharma, Director of CRC Jammu, was the chief guest. PMDK Jammu distributed smart phones and Sugamya Cane Sticks to students under the ADIP scheme.

The school was beautifully decorated with tricolor lights, balloons and flags. The event commenced with Shikha Malhotra (Principal) hoisting the National Flag, followed by singing of National Anthem by the attendees.
Dewan Devi Public School, Rajpura saluted the Nation and its freedom fighters on Independence Day, in the premises of the School. The students of the School marked the occasion by holding a cultural programme highlighting the unity and diversity of India. Chairman of the School, Subhash Chander Suri addressed the students and advised them to perform their role best to serve the Nation and become good citizens of the soil.
Government Sri Ranbir Model Higher Secondary School Jammu celebrated Independence Day with patriotic fervour and zeal. Dr Satya Bhushan Raina (Vice Principal) hoisted the National Flag in the presence of staff members and students.
The celebrations in GHSS Treva (Arnia, Jammu) started with flag hoisting ceremony by Sapna Suri (Principal). It was followed by National Anthem and cultural performances presented by the students.
The Independence Day celebrations held in GHSS Jodhpur (Doda) with great patriotic ferver. Incharge Principal Satish Chandel, Senior Lecturer, hoisted the National Flag and took salute of the parade. In this cluster level programme, various schools including GHSS Jodhpur, UPS Bellena and NPS Bhagyana participated. Students presented various colourful cultural programmes.
GHSS Drass celebrated the Day with enthusiasm. SDM Drass, Vishal Atri took the salute and hoisted the National Flag. All officials of Sub Division Drass were present at the function. Both Councillors of Drass were also present. In his speech, the chief guest highlighted the achievements of various departments. Students of various schools of Drass presented cultural programmes.
The Independence Day was celebrated at GHSS Dablehar (Jammu) under the mentorship of Principal Irvinder Kour. Besides students, a large number of people including ex-sarpanch, panches and village education committee members attended the function. The program began with hoisting of the Tricolor, Recitation of National Anthem and March Past.
GHSS Battal Ballian marked Independence Day with grand celebration. The School premises came alive with the colours of the National Flag. The celebration commenced with the unfurling of the Tricolor by Principal Kushal Kishore along with ex-sarpanch Sunita Devi. The highlight of the event was the cultural extravaganza witnessed by large gathering.
The day was commemorated at GHSS Salmerhi under the guidance of Principal Prem Nath. An elaborate function was organized with the participation of adjoining schools. Students gave scintillating performances which were witnessed by students and local people including ex-sarpanch Ashok Kumar Sharma.
The 78th Independence Day was celebrated at GHSS Mansar (Udhampur) with pomp and show. Chief Executive Officer, Surinsar-Mansar Development Authority and Charu Anand (Principal of the Institution) unfurled the Tricolour. On the occasion, the School was renamed as “Martyr Balbir Raj GHSS Mansar” after the name of the soldier who sacrificed his life in an encounter at Kupwara on August 31, 2003.
Vishwa Bharati Higher Secondary School in its extended Independence Day Celebrations conducted flag hoisting ceremony which was performed by Dr SK Koul (president, Vishwa Bharati Women’s Welfare Institution). Dr Koul was accompanied by Prof AN Sadhu and BL Saraf (management committee members), Vernder Dembi, Annapurna Koul (Principal of the School) and Bharti Bhat (Principal, Vishwa Bharati College of Education).
Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Jeevan Nagar, and Shiksha Niketan High School, Gandhi Nagar, both celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day with vibrant and spirited events. At Jeevan Nagar, students from Class 5 to 10 organized a lively Tiranga Rally featuring the Indian tricolor and patriotic music, which concluded with a community gathering that, reinforced national pride and unity.
Meanwhile, Shiksha Niketan High School in Gandhi Nagar hosted a grand function attended by Principal Rameshwar Mengi, the Director, and representatives from sister institutions.
The student and staff of Shri Mahavir Jain Higher Secondary School Jammu celebrated the Day in the School campus. Tricolour was unfurled by the president, Jain Educational Trust, Ramneek Jain who was the chief guest. In his address, Principal Suresh Gupta exhorted students for eradication of social evils and illiteracy from the society.
The Independence Day celebrations in GHSS Rabta (Jammu) held under the guidance of Principal Moni Dipa. The school children presented various cultural items and patriotic songs. Earlier, the tricolor was unfurled by the College Principal.
The Day was celebrated with patriotic fervor at GHSS Mawa Brahmana. About 200 guests including ex-PRIs, parents and locals attended the function during which flag hoisting was performed by Principal Puja Gupta along with Vice-Principal Ranjeet Kumar.
Army Public School, Akhnoor celebrated Independence Day with enthusiasm. The program began with the School Chairman hoisting the National Flag. The melodious rendition of the National Anthem further strengthened the sense of unity. Students performed a march past, sang patriotic songs and recited poems. The event concluded with a kite-flying activity.
The Day was commemorated at Dogra Higher Secondary School, Shastri Nagar (Jammu) with great enthusiasm. The program commenced with flag hoisting ceremony by Managing Director, Gambhir Dev Singh Charak. The students showcased their love for the country through a vibrant patriotic dance performance.
The 78th Independence Day was celebrated in Brigadier Khuda Baksh Memorial Public Higher Secondary School in presence of Arshad Ali Choudhary (Chairman of Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust, Jammu), Iftikhar Hussain Chouhan (Director KBPS) and others. The function began with hoisting of National Flag along with enchanting of National Anthem.
Shiv Public Higher Secondary School and Shiv Kidz Planet Sari Rakwalan marked Independence Day with enthusiasm.
