Efforts afoot to provide road connectivity to unconnected habitations: Wani

UDHAMPUR,  Sept 16:  Minister for Roads & Building and Mechanical Engineering, Abdul Majid Wani today reiterated Government’s commitment to expand a better road network in un-connected habitations of the State which is pre-requisite for progress and prosperity.
This was stated by the Minister while chairing a joint meeting of officers of R&B, JKPCC, PMGSY and district administration convened to review the financial and physical achievements under R&B and allied sectors.
The Minister directed the concerned to take-up the left out road projects under RIDF-19 and PMGSY in the district and ensure their speedy completion. He asked the Deputy Commissioner to personally monitor the pace of work on school buildings being constructed under RMSA for ensuring their quality and timely completion. He also asked for identifying land and submission of proposal for rehabilitation of affected families of Dalaha village whose dwelling units damaged due to land sliding.
Directing for taking strict action against the default contractors, the Minister asked to black list these contractors so that the projects of vital importance do not suffer in future.
Wani reviewed the pace of progress of various works being executed under R&B sector, PMGSY and JKPCC and got first hand appraisal of the status of the same. He said that the Government is paying focused attention for providing better road connectivity to the people living in far-off and remote areas He said that it would promote trade and commerce activities in these areas and help in ameliorating their socio-economic condition.
Referring to sanction of Rs.710 crore by Union Government for land compensation under PMGSY, the Minister said that this would help in completion of roads projects which were pending for want of compensation.
Meanwhile, the Minister also got first hand appraisal of damages caused to property and crops due to recent incessant rains and the steps taken for temporary and permanent rehabilitation of affected people.
Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Yasha Mudgal gave an overview of the assessment of damages caused to public and private property and agriculture sector.
The meeting was informed that an amount of Rs. 22.45 is required for restoration works of damaged public utilities in Udhampur district. It was informed that against an amount of Rs. 11.69 crore for temporary restoration of public utilities, an amount of Rs. 5.73 crore has been received which has not been disbursed so far for want of verification report from the Inter-Disciplinary Committee.
The meeting was informed that the work on 37 projects amounting Rs. 14.62 crore is going-on under NABARD besides 57 road projects are being executed under state plan in the district.
MLA, Ramnagar, Harshdev Singh, MLA, Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia and MLA, Chenani, Krishan Chander Bhagat were present in the meeting. They also projected issues of public importance of their respective constituencies.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Yasha Mudgal, Managing Director, JKPCC T R  Bhagat, Chief Engineer, Mechanical Engineering Deepak Razdan, Chief Engineer, PMGSY  besides senior civil and police officers of district administration attended the meeting.
