Efforts on to equip police with modern gadgetry: Govt

SRINAGAR, June 9: The State Government today said efforts are being made to equip the police department with modern gadgetry for use during law and order situations and counter-insurgency operations.
The Government said the State police is working in “difficult situations” and “at times in very trying circumstances” while playing an important role in maintenance of law and order and undertaking counter-insurgency operations.
“Efforts have been and are being made to equip the police department with modern gadgetry for use during law and order, counter-insurgency and other emergent duties under Central schemes of modernisation of police forces and security-related expenditure and, besides fund allotted under State budget,” Minister In-charge Home said in a written reply in Legislative Council.

The reply said some police officers of the State have also been given specialized training in and outside the State.
“During the year 2015, 4105 police officers/men have been given specialized training within and outside the State. During the year 2016, 4200 slots have been earmarked for specialized training of police officers/men within and outside the State,” it said.
The reply said the Government has taken series of measures for the benefit/welfare of the police personnel which include provision of hardship allowance, uniform allowance, ration money allowance, holiday pay, out-of-turn promotions and advance increments.
