Efforts underway to revamp horticulture sector on modern, productive lines: Basharat Bukhari

BARAMULLA: Maintaining that efforts are underway to revamp and revitalize the horticulture sector in the state, the Minister for Horticulture, Syed Basharat Bukhari today said since it contributes in a major way to the economy of the state, the Government is are committed to ensure proper projection and marketing facilities for horticulture produce.

The Minister said this while interacting with the people during his visit to the Fruit Mandi at Kanispora, here.  He took stock of the work on the Fruit Mandi which has been started in 2003 for building additional infra. He announced release of Rs 2.54 crore for land acquisition to further expand the Mandi.

MLA, Baramulla, Mr Javid Hassan Baig, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr Nasir Ahmed Naqash, Managing Director Horticulture Produce and Marketing Corporation, Peer Hafizullah and other senior officers accompanied the Minister.

The Minister directed for expediting the remaining work on the Fruit Mandi, maintaining that it is very imperative for horticulture sector as it would provide the necessary marketing and the storage facilities to the horticulture produce. He said the officers should synergize their efforts to ensure the work is completed in the shortest possible time.

Syed Basharat Bukhari said the Government has made several interventions in the sector which would ensure that the horticulture produce gets the requisite boost and is also provided with the requisite marketing facilities within and outside the country.

He said the new and improved varieties of the fruit plants including high density varieties have also been introduced and necessary measures have been taken to check the spurious pesticides.
