NEW DELHI:Eicher Polaris, a joint venture between Eicher Motors and US-based Polaris Industries, today launched personal utility vehicle ‘Multix’.
Designed specially for independent businessmen, Multix is available in two variants and has a starting price of Rs 2.32 lakh (ex-showroom Jaipur), the company said in a statement.
Multix has a cabin space for five people along with luggage and is equipped with a power-take-off point, which can generate power of upto 3 KW that can be used for lighting a house or business place, powering professional equipment such as drilling machines, DJ systems, water pumps and more.
Commenting on the development, Eicher Motors MD & CEO Siddhartha Lal said: “We have identified a large untapped segment in independent businessmen with an estimated population of 5.8 crore in India, and are committed to creating a new and strongly differentiated automotive solution for them through Multix.”
The Eicher Polaris Pvt Ltd has invested Rs 350 crore till date in the JV to unlock the potential of new opportunities, he added.
” With Eicher Motors’ understanding of the Indian market, their expertise in lean engineering platforms and Polaris Industries capabilities in product innovation and category creation, we believe that Eicher Polaris is most uniquely positioned to achieve this and bring about a paradigm shift in automobiles for India,” Polaris Industries Inc Vice President, Asia Pacific & Latin America Mike Dougherty said.
According to Eicher Polaris CEO Radhesh C Verma, Multix will be launched in 30 cities to start with.
“It will be available for test ride in July and deliveries will start in August,” he added.
Set up in July 2012, Eicher Polaris is a 50:50 JV. It has a manufacturing facility at Jaipur in Rajasthan with an annual capacity of 60,000 units. (PTI)
