JAMMU, Jan 14: Eid-i-Milad-un- Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Mohammed, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and religious fervour across the region today.
In Jammu, the special prayers were offered at all the religious places/mosques which were highly decorated and the `Eidgah’ by the members of Muslim community in large number. Top Muslim scholars/ Maulanas from various parts of the country including Delhi and UP also delivered lectures to the religious gathering and threw light on the life and teachings of Hazrat Mohammed.
At Central Eidgah, on Residency Road Jammu, a grand function was organised under the guidance and over supervision of Anjuman-e-Islah-ul-Muslimeen. The programme was spread over three sessions. The first session started at 10 am with recitation of Holy Quran by Qari Roshan Din followed by Naat by Maulana Noor Din Qasmi and Mufti Abdul Hakeem Imam Makkah Masjid. This session was presided over by Maulana Siraj-u-Din Qasmi, Imam Jamia Masjid Alhijri -Ustad Mohalla. Alama Ghajanfar Abbas Toosi from Delhi, who is prominent Shia Scholar highlighted various aspects of the life and teachings of Prophet of Islam (PBUH). He said there is no place for differences and division in Islam. He stated that life of Prophet of Islam is practical manifestation of Quran.
Prof Anice Chisti from Pune also highlighted salient features of Islam and the life of Prophet with reference to its entry into Makkah from Madina, when he forgave all those who tortured him and announced a general amnesty for all. He appealed the audience to follow the learning of Quran. Maulana Siraj-u-Din Qasmi stressed the need to charge the heart and mind before attending such functions. The session ended with the prayer for humanity by Mufti Nazir Ahmed Qasmi.
The second session which commenced at 2.30 pm was presided over by Mufti Nazir Ahmed Qasmi from Darul-ul-Uloom Rahimia Bandipore Kashmir. He also recited the verses from Holy Quran. Mufti Inayat-Ullah Qasmi, Maulana Bashir Ahmed and Prof Anice Chisti addressed the last and final session which ended at 9 pm at Central Eidgah with the prayers for peace and prosperity of humanity.
Stalls of eatables, community lunch/ dinner was organised by the local committee of the organisation Anjuman Islah-ul-Muslimeen Talab Khatikan and other social organizations for the devotees at the function.
Meanwhile, a grand religious procession was taken pout from Ustad Mohalla (CPO Chowk) mosque by a large number of members from Muslim community. Highly decorated camels/ horses were the main attraction which were included in the religious procession. Some were mounded on their vehicles, cars, bikes etc while many were moving on foot. They were chanting religious slogans from the loud speakers fitted atop their vehicles.
After passing through Ambphalla, New Plot, Prem Nagar, Rodian Di Chhapri, Old Janipur and procession culminated at a mosque near Janipur Chowk. The entire procession route had been closed by police and vehicles had been diverted to other routes. Massive traffic jam was created at Patoli, Janipur, New Plot, Sarwal, Rehari and New Plot and Ambphalla area with the closure of the main New Plot-Janipur route by the District Administration. The people had to face the tough time during closure from 10.30 am 1 pm.
In Rajouri, after special prayers at Eidgah near Talab, a grand religious procession was taken out towards main market and Gujjar Mandi Chowk. Thousands of members from the community participated in this religious procession. They culminated their march at a Jama Masjid near Dak Bungalow Rajouri. They were shouting religious slogans and unfurling flags during the procession. At Eidgah, noted Muslim scholars/ Maulanas spoke on the life and teachings of Prophet Hazrat Mohammed.
In Poonch, Eid Milad-ul-Nabi like other parts of the State was celebrated with great enthusiasm and religious fervor. A mega celebration was held at Central mosque Poonch. Many Muslim scholars recited the verse from Holy Quran and highlighted the teachings Prophet Mohammed. Thousands of people participated in the religious procession which started at around 1 pm from the Central mosque and was culminated at 4 pm at Eidgah Poonch. It was reported that some miscreants raised a few objectionable remarks, but the elderly people in the procession at Poonch snubbed them for doing so and creating communal tension in the area.
Reports of organising similar grand religious processions and celebrations were also received from Mandi, Surankote, Mendhar, Thannamandi, Darhal, Budhal, Kalakote, Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Ramban, Banihal, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Mahore and Reasi.
