SRINAGAR, Oct 14: Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, shoppers have created a bustle in the Valley town markets, especially in Srinagar’s busy Lal Chowk where shoppers are seen busy shopping and buying sacrificial animals.
The markets were chocked by make shifts stalls in Srinagar city and other towns across the Valley.
Women and children were busy in purchasing hosiery items, bakery and suiting, whereas youth were busy in purchasing bakery, poultry and mutton.
Similarly, some people were busy in bargaining sacrificial animals at different places on the roads side in the city and especially at the Eidgah ground in the Old City.
Hundreds of makeshift stall have been put up in the city to sell goods from sweets to casual-wear, which chocked almost all the major roads of the city. Traffic police had a tough time regulating the flow of vehicles.
While children preferred to buy firecrackers and toys to add to the joy of Eid, young people chose to buy warm clothing for the ensuing winter.
At few places a large gathering of people were assembled to have a glimpse of Camel, otherwise an unusual animal for animal lovers here. “Well fed, fat sacrificial sheep and goats with decorated horns are fetching sellers’ good prices, though the animals are being sold at an average rate of Rs.200 per kg of their live weight, a better reared animal fetches more,” said Javaid Ahmad, one of the sellers.
Government has deployed a special squad to check market prices of goods and the quality of the products. Still chicken and other bakery item were being sold on higher rates as per Government rate lists.
