SRINAGAR, Aug 19: Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramzan, is being celebrated across Jammu and Kashmir with religious fervour on Monday.
The biggest congregation in the Valley is expected to take place at Eidgah in old city area of Srinagar where Mirwaiz Omar Farooq will deliver the Eid sermon. The prayers at Eidgah will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the parking of the vehicles in the Eidgah where around 1 lakh people are expected to offer prayers.
The Hazratbal shrine on the banks of Dal lake and Tourist Reception Centre ground are also expecting thousands of people attending the Eid prayers. Eid prayers will be offered at 10:30 a.m. at Hazratbal and at 8:30 a.m. at TRC ground. Elaborate arrangements have been made on the occasion for the Eid prayers at Hazratbal and TRC ground.
An over 2000-car parking lot has been set up in the heart of the city, mostly in Sangarmal shopping centre, for the convenience of those attending prayers at TRC ground.
Police and para-military Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are being deployed at the sensitive places of the city to avoid any attempt of breach of peace on the occasion. It may be mentioned here that on the occasion of Jumat-ul-Vida over a dozen persons were injured after Friday prayers in Nowhatta area of Srinagar.
The Divisional Administration of Kashmir has finalised all the arrangements for the Eid celebrations, including public transport facility for the devotees.
Ahead of the Eid festivities, people across Kashmir withdrew around Rs 200 crore from the ATMs in Kashmir in the past seven days.
Meanwhile ahead of Eid markets across Kashmir valley today wore adeserted look in the morning as majority of the people had shopped for Eid during past few days. Since Eid was either Sunday or Monday people took no chance to wait for the shopping on Sunday. However, in the afternoon there was little bit festivity in the markets but majority of the shops were closed due to Sunday.
