Eight thousand to attend World Telangana Convention in Houston

NEW YORK: A three-day convention, sponsored by the American Telangana Association, will be held in Houston this week and preparations for the event are nearly complete. According to the organisers of the event, known as the World Telangana Convention 2018, luminaries from different fields from across the globe ? including those from India and the US ? will gather in the second such convention being held in America. The first one was held in Detroit in 2016.
Representatives from at least 20 nations such as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa as well as the Gulf region are expected to take part in the convention in which about 8,000 will participate.
The organisers ? Chairman Karunakar Madhavaram, President Satyanarayana Reddy Kandimalla, Convener Bangar Aaloori and Secretary Ravi Upad spoke on a conference call last night. Among the luminaries that have been invited are Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao, Jitender Reddy, Sitaram Naik, Madhu Yaskhi Goud, Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, Krishna Sagar Rao, Raghunandan Rao and Komatireddi Rajagopala Reddy ? all political leaders.
Keerthy Suresh, Vijay Devarakonda, Lavanya Tripathi, Varun Tej, Posani Krishna Murali and Jonnavithula Ramalingeswara Rao will be among those attending from the Telugu film land. Rasamayi Balakishan, a Telangana cultural icon, has already arrived in the US and started training American talent. Youth trained by him will exhibit their prowess. Besides highlighting the contributions of Telangana people to the world, local talent will be showcased at the event, according to the organisers.
The convention set for June 29, June 30 and July 1 will be dedicated to noted lyricist Cingireddi Narayana Reddy, known as Cinare, who passed away about a year ago in Hyderabad. His first death anniversary, in accordance with the Hindu calendar, coincidentally falls on the concluding day of the gathering.
Sunitha Krishnan, a social activist, chief functionary and co-founder of Prajwala, a nongovernmental organization that rescues, rehabilitates and reintegrates sex-trafficked women into society, will address a women’s forum.
